The distinguished American poet, Mark van Doren, once mentioned: “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” This notion harmonizes perfectly with my core beliefs about the essence of teaching.

I perceive the act of teaching piano and the journey of learning it as akin to two intertwined entities, much like twins, each one vital to the other’s existence and mutually reliant.

The responsibility of a piano teacher is not limited to the mere presentation of new concepts to learners; it is an expansive role that involves a continuous endeavor to stimulate and enflame their artistic sensibilities and creative impulses in relation to the piano.

Over the course of my years dedicated to both mastering and imparting the art of piano, I have formulated a quintet of pedagogical philosophies.

Helping and encouraging students to build a life-long companionship with classical music through the piano.

Einstein once said, “I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music.” This statement profoundly mirrors the core of my philosophy on piano teaching. To me, teaching piano is not merely a profession; it is an art of living, a heartfelt commitment to imparting the beauty of life to students. Music education is also a journey of sharing wisdom and emotion, a dialogue that transcends generations and cultures, linking the most exalted artistic achievements of the past with the creativity of the present.

As Einstein exemplified, the journey of music extends well beyond the confines of the music itself. It is a universal language that can evoke deep resonances within us and exert a unique influence in our lives. My conviction as a piano teacher is to reveal the rich tapestry of classical music, to unearth students’ creativity and imagination in the classroom, and to help them recognize that classical music is not just an art form but a faithful companion in life—a source of comfort, inspiration, and joy. It accompanies us through the highs and lows of life, enriching our existence in harmonious ways—this is the philosophy I wish to convey to every student. Regardless of the paths our lives take, the diverse emotions evoked by music resonate within all of us, as if innate. I aspire for my students to transform this passion into a lifelong love for music and to find its place in their lives.
